Is God judging America? I answer emphatically, NO!

I must first say my thoughts and prayer go out to those people who have been affected, directly and indirectly by yesterday’s Boston Marathon bombing. MAY THE PEACE THAT PASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING BE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES!

It always happens, after an incident like yesterday, the first thing most Christians think is… “America has gotten so bad or so evil that God is judging us and that’s why this happened.” (And notice I said most, not all).

After the tragedy of 9/11, many believers in Christ began to publicly declare that God was judging America because of its sins; they began to think, “America has become so sin infested that God is judging us like He did in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah.”

Okay, let’s stop here, think about this… First of all 9/11 was planned by a non-Christian; has it come to this…? Has God decided to use a non-Christian to put America back in line and judge us? Can you imagine this thought process? Believe it or not, some people believe it. Does God really need to use Terrorist, non-Christians or people who have hate in their hearts to judge America for their sins? “Just imagine (that after 9/11), Osama bin Laden in a cave somewhere in Afghanistan agreeing with these Christians and thinking that “god” was indeed using him to judge America. Come on, when Christians attribute such events to God’s judgment, terrorists would be the first to say, “Amen! Preach it!” Can you see something is amiss when both believers and terrorist agree on the same thing?” (Prince, 1982).

If we were to begin to do what the Bible says, read it daily, meditate on it day and night and rightly divide the word of God, then we will begin to see that a loving God would not have thrown thousands of families, friends and loved ones into grief and sadness just to judge the sins of a nation, yes, even if the nation was sinful.

Let’s take a quick look at the story of Sodom and Gomorrah? Yes, it was a city of sin, but first and foremost if we rightly divide this word, this story took place in the Old Testament and it took place under the law, and not under Grace!

First let’s keep in mind that God almost spared Sodom because of Abraham’s plea. He started a count down with God, and God got to the point where He promised Abraham that if there were just 10 righteous men in Sodom, he would not destroy the city for their sake; and then He got down to saying He would spare it for just one righteous person. Later when the angels rescued Lot, we see that God would not have destroyed the city even if just one righteous man-Lot-remained. Notice what the angel said to Lot, “Hurry, escape, there, for I cannot do anything until you arrive there.” They had to wait until Lot, the one righteous person was out of the city and safe in Zoar. Then the city was consumed with brimstone and fire.

So if God considered sparing one city for just one righteous person, are we saying that there is not even one righteous person in America today? I think not! If you are saved, according to ROMANS 10:9, by the professing of your mouth and belief in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord, then you are saved and you are now righteous in the eyes of God. (This does not mean you do not sin but that God does not see your sins and now only sees you through your intercessor Jesus Christ)!

In closing we are not a nation of sinless people, but know this, God does not and will not judge His people by using anger, hatred and more importantly a non-Christian. He is God, He doesn’t need to go below Himself to judge us if He really wanted to!

RIGHTEOUSNESS IS A GIFT OF GRACE FROM THE LORD and believers all over America are clothed with Jesus perfect gift of righteousness! What happened in Boston on yesterday was not an act of judgment from God! It was an act of hatred and evilness! God is a God of Love, Mercy and Grace, and believe this, the Son of Man, Jesus Christ, did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them, through His perfect act of LOVE, MERCY AND GRACE!

Please be in continued prayer for those affected by this tragedy and specifically that the peace that passes all understanding will be upon them and their families!

Forever In His Grace!
